Portable Entertainment
nüvi 3790V is not only a GPS navigator. It builds in Video and Media Player, providing you an ultimate recreational experience. You’ll never feel bored on the road.



Compass
nüvi 3790V not only provides navigation for drivers but also has a built-in compass to pinpoint direction. Enter place or city for your destination. The compass indicates final destination’s direction even from a long distance.

Calendar
nüvi 3790V builds in calendar. It makes planning your appointments, events on your own fun and easy.


0.89 cm Ultra Slim
The new nüvi is less than 0.89 cm thick, about the same as a standard #2 pencil. It has a full glass 4.3” diagonal multi-touch display. Dual orientation capabilities allow you to use the nüvi 3790V either horizontally or vertically, fitting smartly in your hand when walking. Sleek design also disappears neatly into your pocket or purse. With a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, it’s ready to guide you by car or foot.

With 3D Building and Terrain view, you’ll see representations of prominent buildings in many cities and map contours at low zoom levels, giving you a realistic perspective of the terrain.



Speak Commands
nüvi 3790V not only tells you where to turn but listens to your spoken commands. With its innovative speech recognition, you can control nüvi with your voice — allowing you to keep both hands on the wheel. Simply wake up nüvi with a customizable voice command and begin speaking menu options that are clearly displayed on the screen. Tell nüvi "Find Address" and speak an address to start navigating.

Multi-Touch
nüvi 3790V features pinch-to-zoom. But it also responds to other simple finger taps and drags. In fact, there are 10 convenient multi-touch commands in all. Plus, it has a newly designed glass capacitive touchscreen that is bright, clear and more sensitive.


Experience nüRoute™ Technology with myTrends™
Smart and good-looking, this uniquely personal navigator comes with advanced routing capabilities that include myTrends™. There’s no subscription necessary, no added costs, your nüvi 3790V just does it.

With myTrends, when you save your regular destinations in your “Favorites,” your nüvi 3790V will, over time, begin to figure out where you’re going even without your telling it! It provides time of arrival and relevant traffic information. So whether you’re driving to and from work or a regularly scheduled weekly event, your nüvi 3790V will help you get there on time.


Live Traffic Avoidance
Real-time traffic message channel depicts and identifies problems areas on its moving map display now only available in Singapore with NAVTEQ map. Optional GTM35 is required for nüvi 3790V.


Know the Lane Before It’s Too Late
No more guessing which lane you need to be in to make an upcoming turn. Lane info with junction view guides you to the correct lane for an approaching turn or exit, making unfamiliar intersections and exits easy to navigate. It realistically displays road signs and junctions on your route along with arrows that indicate the proper lane for navigation.


Make Hands-free Calls
For hands-free calling, nüvi 3790V integrates Bluetooth® wireless technology with a built-in microphone and speaker. Just pair it with your compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free through the 3790V while staying focused on the road. Simply dial numbers with its touchscreen keypad to make a call. To answer calls, just tap the screen and speak into its built-in microphone. Enjoy convenient one-touch dialing for contacts and points of interest.



Navigate City Transit
With its enhanced pedestrian navigation capabilities and dual-oriented screen, nüvi 3790V is the perfect travel companion for getting around town. nüvi 3790V, is preloaded with detailed maps from NAVTEQ and Malsingmaps, allowing you to travel between Singapore and Malaysia more conveniently. In addition to knowing where to walk, where to catch the bus, underground, tram or other transportation you’ll also have access to mass transit schedules and estimated travel time to your destination.


 
Go Beyond Navigation
Also offered on nüvi 3790V are standard nüvi features that go beyond navigation. For example, ecoRoute — a green feature that calculates a more fuel-efficient route, tracks fuel usage and more. The 3790V includes many travel tools including JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. With photo navigation, you can download pictures from Garmin Connect™ Photos and navigate to them. With its "Where Am I?" emergency locator, you always know your location. Simply tap the screen to get your exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and fuel stations. The 3790V features Garmin Lock™, an anti-theft feature, and is compatible with our free Garmin Garage where you can download custom voices and vehicles. Nuvi 3790, introduced in 2010, make it one of the best looking PND ever. The glass screen and slim form factor make it more iphone like, adding with all the goodies from the previous nuvi such as 3D building + terrain, voice command, etc. This year, Garmin is introduced the enhanced model, Nuvi 3790V.

Form factor
A comparison of thickness (from top: 3790V-2455-1460-650), Nuvi 3790V is real slim and light weight. As there are 2 ways to route, car driving mode or pedestrian mode with customization. So, it is just perfect to carry it in your pocket when travel to new cities of another country.

Display
Nuvi 3790V comes with beautiful multi-touch glass display (capacitive type). The display is crystal clear and bright even under bright sunlight (brightness set to 30%). The only disadvantage of glass screen is that it is a finger print magnet.
The display resolution is almost 2x higher than other nuvi. So, enjoy the a bigger map area display, crisper text and cleaner icon.



Video & Media Player
The video player could only playback wmv format, so very limited choice.



For mp3 media playback, music quality through speaker is just basic. You could use the micro usb/audio converter to hook up your earphone.



Calender
New feature with calendar application for you to create and plan your meeting / activity / other events.



You'll be getting the voice reminder / icon when you turn Nuvi.


There is also a garmin-pc sync program found in the unit. The installed program will sync with your outlook events to the nuvi calendar

Car Park
Every time you pull out Nuvi 3790V from the car mount, the current position will be taken as car parking position.
When you are back for your car, go straight to the "Car Park" section and press "Last Spot".




Voice Command
Say the magic words "Voice Command" in the map viewing mode and it will be activated. You could change these phrase (by re-type the words) to something like "Hey Dude"




To reduce the amount of typing, previous search will be memorized and suggestion word will pop up as you type.


The navigation voice prompt from the unit speaker itself is quite soft even you turn on to maximum volume.
When you 1st mount the unit to the car holder, you may not realize that this car mount comes with a power speaker. Plug in the vehicle power cable to the car mount (usb socket), mount your Nuvi 3790V and get a louder voice.


Road Test
1st lock on to satelite
cold start : 1 minute 30 seconds
warm start 10-20 seconds
This satelite lock on speed is fast. However compare to Nuvi 2465, it seems that Nuvi 3790V is slight slower to get the satelite lock on. In a same position inside a building, Nuvi 2465 almost getting instant satelite lock on while Nuvi 3790V took 2 minutes later to lock on

Pick your driving destination thru the "Where To" search, or opt to voice command.
As it is a capacitive touch screen, just remember to use your finger pulp to touch the screen. Using fingertip may end up unresponsive results.

On the road driving, you are presented with the navigation guiding features such as junction view images (hi-res for Nuvi 3790V) on major highway exits, lane assist, speed limit ... etc from the preloaded maps of Navteq & Malsingmaps.

If you turn on the myTrends feature and navigate to destination that you placed in the "Favorites", Nuvi 3790 will learn your preferred route, once you have deviated from a suggested route several times. It will also takes into account your driving habits when calculating your ETA. If your office is in the favorites, nuvi will suggest this on the menu every morning you plug in your Nuvi 3790V to your car mount.


Conclusion
Pros:
- Bright and gorgeous screen with high resolution
- Fast routing calculation / recalculation
- 3D terrain, 3D building, hi-res junction view images,... etc
- New addition features including media/video player, built in electronic compass, calendar etc.


Cons:
- Under the hot sun, the unit get pretty warm, probably of the metal surface.
- Slightly weaker performance compare the latest model Nuvi 2465
- Lacking some of the Nuvi 2xxx series feature such as custom avoidances, auto zoom setting, favorites routing simulation. Link to Nuvi 2465 review here : viewtopic.php?p=187927#p187927
- Power button need to be pressed at the center portion. You may think that the button is non-responsive if you press it near to the left or right edge.


Overall, Nuvi 3790V is the sleekest, most refined PND on the market. For those who are looking for the feature rich PND, this is highly recommended.
